I set out to gather the top ten most romantic quotes in literature. In doing so, I ran across copies of the love letters English Romantic poet John Keats had written to Fanny Brawne. Passionate. Heartbreaking. Tragic.

Keats relationship with Miss Brawne mirrored his short yet brilliant life. It seems that on December 25, 1818 they declared their love; they were engaged in October 1819. But Keats felt he could not marry Fanny until he had established himself as a poet—or proved to himself he could not. The marriage was not to be as Keats died tragically at the age of 25 in February 1821. 

Before his death, Keats burned all but Brawne's last letters, which were buried with him.
